IEBGreen Challenge: Today's Triumph

April 29, 2009 — Now that the static season is over, we don't need dryer sheets any more. We go lint sheet-free from April until November every year. The dryer sheets that are in use in Winter are unscented so that we're not adding extra chemical-based scents to the air. Check my complete list of "Green things done to date" in the right-hand column.

Tuesday Tooth Report

My recent Orthodontist appointment went very well. I now have a thicker wire on each jaw. These wires are supposed to continue moving roots into proper alignment as well as straighten that last tooth (bottom row, left-of-centre) that has been holding out. My Orthodontist says that that tooth won't be able to resist this wire!

As usual, I took advantage of the wires being off to get in a real flossing.

4-foot long, poisonous sea worm found in aquarium

After mysterious attacks on the coral reef and prize fish in Newquay's Blue Reef Aquarium (Cornwall, UK), staff decided to stake out the display. Weeks later, they had no answers but the brutal attacks were mounting. Left with no other option but to wonder if the suspect lay within the tank, they decided to upturn the display rock by rock. The perp was revealed as a four-foot long, spiny Polychaete Worm capable of stinging a human and leaving permanent numbness. After deliberations, it was sentenced to solitary in its own tank at the aquarium. It's believed that the worm arrived on some of the live coral used to build the display as a "juvie".

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

Chasing the past, she stumbled into the future."
— said by Dr. Tom in "Being Erica"

I love this line. It has literal and figurative meaning for the larger-than-life characters in the episode. I like the figurative meaning that it holds for the every-day person as well. While I don't like dwelling on the past, I do like learning from it. Often, the result of learning is a more sure-footed future.

Tuesday Tooth Report

My appointment is just a couple of days away so I'll have more to report soon. In the meantime, I'll address a question that users keep asking... "When are we going to see photos?" Well, perhaps when I have more time I'll put up a few photos. At the end of this whole process I definitely intend to put up a before-and-after!

Virtual Chess

Audi puts up an ad on a busy street corner in Santa Monica, California, with the headline "Your move, BMW." The advertising agency of the local BMW Dealer responds with a larger, more impressive billboard on the opposite corner with the headline "Checkmate." Brilliant.

Absolutely no movement at all this week (that I can detect). I'm anxious to move this process along. My next appointment isn't until the 23rd!

Portuguese water dog for the Obama family

Wired Science is reporting that it'll be a a Portuguese water dog for the Obama Family. While the President was hoping for a rescued dog, as he put it "mutts like me", the family had to take their daughter's dog allergy into consideration and opted for a hypo-allergenic dog. These dogs have hair rather than fur and, therefore, don't shed. Check it out at Wired.com
