Well, last Wednesday was my third-last Orthodontist appointment. They measured, took impressions for retainers and filed a couple of teeth to make the perfect fit. Not too perfect, though; they want my teeth to look naturally straight.

A LOT to report today! My appointment went really, really well. My Orthodontist says I'm done! She was going to have me keep my elastics on 2 more weeks just to allow the teeth to get used to their new position. Unfortunately, I'll be away at the 2 week mark so I won't be able to see her until September. That month will hold 3 appointments for me. One to get fitted for a retainer, one to have Xrays done and one to have my braces off. Apparently the removal of the braces will take the better part of an afternoon. I don't know if I can hold my mouth open that long! I'll deal — it's worth it!!

I've got an appointment coming up in a couple of days. Yay! Will hopefully have lots to report next week. Can't say if I'll be getting my braces off or not but my Orthodontist was hopeful that it would be soon.

Nothing huge to report. Again, nano correction as the days pass. It makes it a looooong wait for my next appointment.

Still minor movement taking place. I'm doubling up on the elastics to speed up the process. I always find that toward the end of the 8-week period between Ortho visits, movement slows considerably. Par for the course.

My teeth keep moving as they should. My bite is more and more refined every day. As predicted, the Cold symptoms didn't result in anything. I'm starting to get the hang of things just months away from the end of this who process!

Everything is going very well this week. The back of my throat aches a little and my nose is sometimes instantly runny but that's all happened twice before throughout this process so I know that it's just because things are moving and the hollows of my skull around my mouth are changing.

It still amazes me that all this can happen to bone and that all of it is happening to me!

Yesterday I had my regular 4-month check-up at the Dentist. While I've got my braces on they want to see me every 4 months instead of once a year. The visit went very well. They were pleased with how clean I'm getting my teeth. They used a high-pressure spray that contained water, air and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to clean out the brackets. Apparently plaque collects on those, too!

My bite is really off this week. So off that it's causing me to 'worry' my teeth with my tongue. Now I have a tongue ache. I know exactly what's causing it but I can't seem to stop! It's like when you're a kid and you've got a wiggly tooth — you just can't stop fiddling with it.

That was an amazing trip to the Orthodontist.

The whole event took the talents of three people. First they took my wires off to give them complete access to everything. Then they had all kinds of filing going on: drill-bit-style, disc-style, plastic tape with very fine tooth and a thin steel sheet that simply vibrates. Surprisingly, there was no pain. The result was horizontal and vertical edging to make my teeth look like they've never been worn!

Then they repositioned one bracket to raise my bottom-left eye tooth a tiny bit. Once that was glued in place, they put my wires back on but this time put a new, thicker wire around the bottom jaw to really pull on that eye tooth. And lastly, they inserted two new hooks for elastics to go around my molars to refine my bite at the back of my mouth.

That's 4 kinds of filing, 3 people hovering, 2 new hooks and 1 new wire. Wow.

And, bonus, since the wires were off, I got to do a real flossing!

I'm doubling-up on the elastics these days. I want my teeth to have moved as much as possible before my appointment next week. They'll be shaving down some of the odd-angled edges so I want my teeth to be as aligned as possible.

I was recently invited to a wine tasting to test a number of dinner and dessert wines for a local U-Vint store. I noticed that one of the red wines I tried left my cheeks and lips clinging to my braces! I don't know what made that wine different from the others but it seemed to have affected the metal in my mouth. I checked around; I was the only one with braces and the only one experiencing this effect. Still, a very enjoyable evening!

One thing I've noticed about braces is how annoying it is now to eat stringy things. Pineapple, oranges and celery are particularly difficult to clean out of my braces because their strings get wrapped around my brackets! I'm not giving any of those up so I'll just have to spend an extra 10 minutes cleaning tonight.

My recent Orthodontist appointment went very well. I now have a thicker wire on each jaw. These wires are supposed to continue moving roots into proper alignment as well as straighten that last tooth (bottom row, left-of-centre) that has been holding out. My Orthodontist says that that tooth won't be able to resist this wire!

As usual, I took advantage of the wires being off to get in a real flossing.

My appointment is just a couple of days away so I'll have more to report soon. In the meantime, I'll address a question that users keep asking... "When are we going to see photos?" Well, perhaps when I have more time I'll put up a few photos. At the end of this whole process I definitely intend to put up a before-and-after!

Absolutely no movement at all this week (that I can detect). I'm anxious to move this process along. My next appointment isn't until the 23rd!
